Get Rid of the Recycle Bin icon from your life
March 9th, 2007 admin Posted in Best of the Best, Tips & Tricks
I have one damned habit, every time when I see the full Recycle Bin my hand automatically cleans it:( Some times ago this habit caused a big embarrassment for me. I work at alien PC in office where works my friend. I emptied recycle bin automatically…
Probably you won’t believe me, but there are some kind of people who store important documents in recycle bin
So it was very bad situation for me… Of course all was ok at the end. But it cost me some money and a few hours of time. I used data recovery tool to restore all deleted files. There were really important documents.
After that I have decided that I should get rid of this habit (Additionally this take off a few seconds every day). First of all I should hide the recycle bin icon from my desktop. There is no standard way to do this in Windows. But I (and I hope you too) is advanced user, am i correct?
So I found way to do this.
1. Click on the Start Menu and go to Run (or just press Win+R, save one second!).
2. Type in regedit and hit Enter.
3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace (you can press first letter of branch name for faster navigation)
4. Do you see {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} branch? Create backup at first, right-click NameSpace and select Export.
5. Delete the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} branch or just rename it to OLD-{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} (I think that rename is a good idea - in this case you can easy restore it)
6. Right-click your desktop and select Refresh. There is no the Recycle Bin icon more!:)
Note: This won’t delete your Recycle Bin at all, all deleted files will be deleted to it in any case. You just don’t see it at your workspace.
But there is one problem. Sometimes you should empty your Recycle Bin. So, I recommeded you to do the following focus (I use this way):
Before you hide off your Recycle Bin try to move it to your Quick Launch Bar. Just drag and drop it. After that you will have the shortcut to Recycle Bin in your Launch Bar as a small icon. You can use it to Empty your Recycle Bin. It’s easy
If you want to get back your Recycle Bin icon. Just create branch {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace . if you have deleted it. Or rename it to original name.
Don’t forget to add this article to bookmark, suddenly you want to restore your Recycle Bin icon;)

THANK YOU! Finally today (March 19) it was driving me nuts enough to find out how I could clear it off so that only my nice photo would show. I am so exited that I’m just thanking you ahead of time. Did not try yet. I’m sure it will work. Live long and prosper!

OK. GREAT! It vanished. I should point out something about what you say at the end about emptying recycle bin.
I had already done this: You can also right-click on the recycle bin icon, then click properties, then you will see how it asks if you want anything in the future immediately deleted without having it have to go to recycle bin at all. That’s what I did. Thank you.

Who in there right mind would store important documents in the trash? A mac user that is.. Macs in the begining allowed users to develop bad habits, they still do… I used to support an office the had both Macs and PC’s, I too had the habit of enptying the trash and yes deleted some users files. I am sorry, I cant see working dangerously and having to remove the danger beasue yuou are not disciplined enough to aquire better skills and habits.. I guess they call that being human..
